PLAY READING & WRITING FOR PERFORMANCE

 

Feeling a little theatrical? We have lots of activities planned for those who like to build skills in creating and performing. Many, but not all, of these activities are for WTC members so now is a great time to join.

PLAY READINGS (for WTC Members)

 

​Play Readings are a chance to read a part in a play and after a few practise sessions (over two evenings) with the rest of the cast, you can be part of the ‘performance’ that is you can read your script, use a few props or costume elements and act a little in front of a small audience in the foyer of the Lighthouse Theatre.

EMBERS by Campion Decent

A touching story told through the voices of community members

who experienced the North East Victorian fires in 2003.

A NIGHT OF BEING WILDE - Oscar WILDE

A selection of excerpts from Wilde’s plays, short stories, poems and novels.

THIRD PLAY READING – To Be Announced

  • Performance Reading: 7.00pm

WRITING WORKSHOPS (for WTC Members)

Come along with an idea and write a short play (maximum 10 minutes).

Selected works may be developed for the TENx10 Minute Play Performances -

17 October at Mozart Hall.

Workshops will be facilitated by Ross McCorkell and Lex Waterreus.

  • Dates: Saturdays — 14 March, 11 April, 9 May, 6 June

  • Time: 10.00am–2.00pm

  • Venue: TOAD Hall, Princess Street, Warrnambool

Numbers are limited, so bookings are essential.

ONE ACT PLAYS

Local scriptwriters are invited to submit scripts (20–45 minutes)

for our second One Act Play Festival.

Key dates:

  • Submissions open: 29 March

  • Writing workshops (draft polishing):
    Saturdays 14 March and 11 April, 2.30–5.00pm
    TOAD Hall (bookings required)

  • Submissions close: 25 April 

  • Performances: 11–12 July (venue to be confirmed)

Four plays will be selected and fully produced, including directors, auditions and casting, rehearsals, and production support.

Selected playwrights will be expected to become WTC members and to be actively involved in the production of their play.
