JOIN THE PRODUCTION TEAM
Volunteers are the backbone of our company. We simply could not put on the shows we do without the incredible people who give their time and energy to make it all happen. Below you will find a brief description of all the areas where we need help. If you are interested in joining, please check out the different ways to get involved and join the production team by completing the short survey below:
Set design, construction and painting
From designing the world of the show to building and painting it into existence, our sets team does it all! This can involve drafting and design, building skills such as hammering, nailing, and sawing, and painting that ranges from broad general work to detailed artwork. We have some tools available but it is always helpful if you are willing to bring your own. If you have an artistic streak, let us know as we sometimes need people for finer detail work!

Props
Our props team sources, creates, and manages all the objects that bring our productions to life on stage. Whether you have an eye for detail, enjoy hunting through op shops, or love making things, we would love your help!

Costumes
You do not have to be a professional dressmaker to help out with costumes! WTC has a vast costume collection as well as sourcing and hiring pieces for specific productions. Costumes often need mending or alterations such as adjusting hemlines or sewing on buttons. Occasionally we need to make items from scratch, in which case we will provide you with a pattern, material, and everything else you need. Beyond sewing, our costume team also needs help during the performance period with ironing, washing, simple repairs, and quick-change assistance backstage.

Hair and makeup
If you have a flair for hairdressing and makeup we would love your help! Hair and makeup application generally begins around three hours before the show and should be finished thirty minutes before curtain. There may be some touch-ups during the performance too.

Backstage
Backstage crew assist with scene transitions during the show, working under the direction of the Stage Manager or Assistant Stage Manager. You will be responsible for the safe and timely movement of set pieces. Please be aware that committing to backstage means you may not be able to watch the show from the audience, so we appreciate your dedication!

Lighting and sound
If you have experience with theatre tech, we want to hear from you! Our productions require audio technicians, lighting operators, projection assistants, photographers, and videographers. Whether you have existing skills or simply want to learn, please get in touch.

Publicity
Do you have a passion for marketing, graphic design, photography, or social media? Our publicity team helps spread the word about our productions and events. Whether you want to help design posters and programs, capture behind the scenes moments, or help promote our shows online, we would love to hear from you!

Front of house
We need volunteers to help welcome audiences across our various venues. Front of house volunteers assist with showing people to their seats, keeping aisles clear, directing people to toilets and the box office, and selling programs. You will need to be at the venue one hour before curtain and at interval.

Security
It sounds a bit daunting but it’s not really. During rehearsals and performances it is important that only authorised people have access to our spaces. Our security volunteers help everyone sign in and out, ensuring that cast, directors, orchestra, and rostered helpers are the only people backstage, keeping everyone safe.

Bump in and out
Bump in is the term for moving all sets, props, and costumes into the performance venue. Bump out is where we pack everything up and clean the venue, usually the day after the final performance. Costumes are bagged for washing and there is some general cleaning of dressing rooms and cast areas. Many hands make light work! If you have a ute, trailer, or small truck you will be especially welcome!

General help
Sometimes tasks come up that do not fall neatly under any particular heading. It is always great to have people we can call on when the need arises. If you are happy to be a general helper, let us know!
